Clear pricing for military history research

Military history research is charged at a fixed day rate. This covers archive visits, document examination, transcription, background research, report writing and design work.

Starting price: £600

This includes:

  • One day of archive research and travel

  • Document scans and copies

  • Transcription of handwritten material

  • Background research (placing events in their military and historical context)

  • Picture research and maps

  • Report writing

  • Design and layout

  • 20-25-page illustrated report

Additional work

Research projects vary. Some cases require more archive time. Others involve complex handwritten war diaries or multiple units.

Additional work beyond the starting package is charged at £200 per day plus any out-of-pocket expenses.

How it works

Send me a written brief about the person you want researched. Include their name, rank, service number, branch of service and any other details you have.

If you have their military service records, send a copy.

I will review the brief and respond with a written quote. The quote will outline the expected scope of work and provide pricing options.

Payment terms

Payment is required in two stages:

  • 50 per cent upfront to begin research

  • 50 per cent on completion

Payments can be made by bank transfer or PayPal.

Timeline

Most research projects take three to four weeks from start to finish. This depends on the availability of the archive and the complexity of the case.

Rush projects may be possible for an additional fee.
